Athens State Community Band Christmas Concert Announced

Athens State Community Band Christmas Concert Announced

November 26th, 2012

Athens, Ala. - The Athens State University Community Band, under the direction of Dan Havely, is gearing up for their annual Christmas Concert. The concert will be held in the Carter Gymnasium on Pryor Street on the northern border of campus.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 9th at 3:00 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public courtesy of the Livingston Concert Lecture Series with no reservations required.

A reception, hosted by the Athens State Alumni Association and the Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be held following the afternoon performance in the gymnasium.

“The Community Band’s Christmas Concert kicks off the holiday season for so many people,” stated Athens State’s Guy McClure. “We’re pleased to have the Athens-Limestone Hospital joining with the Alumni Association this year to sponsor the post-concert reception in the gymnasium. We\'re looking forward to a great crowd.”

Calhoun Community College will conduct a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new Alabama Center for Excellence in Green Energy Technology (ACECET), tomorrow, September 19, 2012, beginning at 10:00am.  The ACECET is located on the college’s Decatur campus.

Waterfowl hunters will have extra time in the field to pursue Canada geese this season with a 78-day season and an increased bag limit. In fact, hunters can get into action this weekend for the special early Canada goose season, which runs Sept. 1-15.

    On October 13, 2012, at 4 p.m. Isom's Orchard will once again be the setting for a late afternoon benefit dinner in their orchards. This year's dinner will honor Raymond Isom and his love of knowledge. One hundred twenty-five tickets at a cost of $100 each, will be sold on September 8, beginning at 9 am, at The Isom's Orchard Stand on Highway 72 in Athens. One hundred of those tickets will be sold to directly assist The Library Foundation in it's goal to build in Athens. An additional twenty-five tickets will be sold to benefit breast cancer research via the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
