2013 Paralibrarian of the Year

Laura Poe, Library Clerk at Athens-Limestone Public Library has been named Library Journal’s 2013 Paralibrarian of the Year. Chosen from a national field of library staff, Poe combines outstanding customer service, dedication, and a passion for her career. The award is sponsored by DEMCO, Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin, and recognizes the essential role of paraprofessional librarians in providing excellent library service.

Nominated by library director Paula Laurita, Poe was selected by the editors of Library Journal from a competitive group of nominations.  Poe impressed Library Journal editors with her tireless service to patrons and the Library.  Laurita states, “It has been my good fortune to work with Laura Poe since 2008.  Mrs. Poe shines for the Library, creating so much good will for the    Library that it is hard to document.”

Library Journal is a the premier professional publication for librarians. It was founded in 1876 by Melville Dewey (familiar as the inventor of the Dewey decimal system). It reports news about the library world and offers feature articles about aspects of professional practice.
