Athens State Community Band Spring Concert to Host Jenny Maclay
The Spring Concert will celebrate the groups 10th anniversary

Athens, ALA. - The Athens State University Community Band, currently celebrating its 10th year under the director of Dan Havely, will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00pm in the Carter Gymnasium on the Athens State campus.

At this year’s concert, the Community Band will proudly be accompanied on select songs by Jenny Maclay, a 2008 graduate of Sparkman High School.

Maclay is quickly establishing herself as a concert soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Maclay has achieved a number of notable musical honors, including selection as a semi-finalist and finalist for such international competitions as Astral Artists and Concert Artists Guild.   Most recently, she was the first prize winner of the 2013 National Federation of Music Clubs Orchestral Winds Regional Solo Competition and will be competing at the national level this spring.

Maclay made her solo debut at the age of 15, as first prize winner of the Huntsville Symphony Young Artist Competition.  She is a Vandoren Regional Artist and performs exclusively on Vandoren reeds and mouthpieces.

“We are thrilled to have Jenny joining us for this concert,” remarks Havely.  “She will be performing the classic "Concertino for Clarinet" by Carl Maria Von Weber with the band.  The band will also be playing traditional and operatic marches, Hollywood and Broadway favorites including selections from Les Miserables.”

The concert is free and open to the public.  Reservations are not necessary to attend.  For more information about the concert, call 256-233-8296.
