Athens State Education Professor Recognized for Course Development
ATHENS, Ala. - Athens State University Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Development Darlene Turner-White was recently awarded the 2014 Blackboard Catalyst Award for Exemplary Courses for the development of her Professional Education Communication class. Turner-White joins a select group of educators and course designers from around the world whose courses have earned the Exemplary Course designation.
The Blackboard Catalyst Awards program annually recognizes and honors innovation and excellence in the Blackboard global community of practice, where teachers and learners work every day to redefine what is possible when leveraging technology.
“Dr. Turner-White’s work to develop this integral course is exceptional,” states Athens State President Bob Glenn. “I am pleased that it has been recognized by the Blackboard Corporation as a model for other schools to follow.”
Turner-White will be acknowledged for her achievement at Blackboard’s annual conference that will take place in Las Vegas in July.
“Our College of Education has a long history of preparing excellent teachers,” states Athens State Provost Dr. Ronald R. Cromwell. “This requires courses that have high standards and ensure students learn the best researched theories and practices. This includes learning through technology that is fast shaping the educational world. I congratulate Dr. Turner-white on her efforts to provide an exceptional course to our students that models very good distance learning practices.”
