Calhoun Announces Saturday, August 17 On-site Registration

The Admissions Office of Calhoun Community College today announced plans to conduct on-site registration this Saturday, August 17 from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm to assist students who may still need to register and/or see an advisor.  Admissions, advising, financial aid, and cashier's office staff will be available at both the Decatur and Huntsville campuses to assist students in the enrollment and registration process and to answer any questions.

"While registration will continue on campus for the remainder of this week at our regular times, we are once again conducting our Saturday on-site registration to meet student demand and to accommodate those students and parents who may not be able to come to campus during regular hours," commented Pauletta Burns, director of enrollment management and registrar for the college.  

Calhoun's 2013 fall semester classes begin Monday, August 19.  Students may continue to register through Sunday, August 18 without penalty.  Those with questions related to admissions and registration should contact the Admissions Office at 256-306-2593 in Decatur or 256-890-4717 in Huntsville.  Questions related to Financial Aid should be directed to 256-306-2628 in Decatur or 256-890-4715 at the Huntsville campus.

CALHOUN PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES NEW ACADEMIC DEAN

        Calhoun Community College President Dr. Marilyn Beck today announced that Dr. Kemba Chambers has joined the college's administrative staff as the new Dean for the Math, Natural Sciences, and Pre-Engineering Division.
 
Chambers most recently served as Associate Dean of Instruction at Drake State Community and Technical College, where she was responsible for assisting the Dean of Instructional and Student Services in the management of the academic support and instructional programs.  She has extensive experience in education at both the secondary and postsecondary levels, serving as a mathematics instructor and interim chair of the Mathematics and Science Department at Chattahoochee Valley Community College (Phenix City, AL); mathematics instructor at Griffin Technical College (Griffin, GA); and as a secondary mathematics teacher in the Phenix City Public School System.

She received her associate's degree from Chattahoochee Valley and a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Columbus State University (GA).  Chambers earned her Master of Science degree, Educational Specialist, and Class A certification from Troy University and holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Auburn University.

Chambers has been honored as a Master Teacher and a member of the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame for Chattahoochee Valley Community College.  She has been involved in a number of professional and community organizations which include the Alabama Community College Association (ACCA) and the Alabama Leadership Initiative and worked as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.  She is a member of the ACCA Instructional Officers Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a graduate of Leadership Huntsville Class 24.
        
"After an extensive national search, I am very pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Chambers to the Calhoun family," Beck said.  "Dr. Chambers brings such a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge of the community college system.  This experience, coupled with her impressive academic background and her true love for students, made her the ideal choice for this position," commented Beck.

"I look forward to working with Dr. Chambers, as well as all of the newest members of the Calhoun team, as we continue in our efforts to meet the educational and training demands of this very diverse and highly progressive region," Beck added.

Alabama Robotic Technology Park OPEN HOUSE

ALABAMA ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGY PARKTO HOST OPEN HOUSE:
New Mobile Training Lab Being Unveiled



Alabama Governor Robert Bentley will be among the elected officials, business professionals, and education leaders attending the Alabama Robotic Technology Park (RTP) Open House scheduled for TOMORROW,  June 13, 2013, at 9 am.   The event will kick off in Phase I of the RTP. Following opening ceremonies, attendees will have the opportunity throughout the day to tour Phase I and Phase II of the center.



A highlight of the Open House will be the unveiling of the RTP's new Mobile Training Lab. The Mobile Training Lab contains both robots and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) used in training, educational and industrial settings.  The mobile lab will be used to educate students from K-12 through college to create awareness about careers in the robotics and automation industry.  In addition, live demos, seminars, and research and development activities will be featured.



The Alabama Robotics Technology Park (RTP) is a multi-phase, state-of-the-art facility focused on training and education in Robotics and Automation technologies.  Located at Calhoun Community College, the RTP was created through a partnership with Calhoun, AIDT, the state of Alabama and various robotics vendors.  For more information on the RTP, visit the website at http://www.alabamartp.org
